Just in time for the holidays, the Route 66 Webcam is back
online.
This one is set up a little differently from the other webcams. It is a small video camera that sends a composite video
signal over coaxial cable to a video capture card. The nice thing about this setup is that the camera doesn't have to be
close to the computer, unlike the other webcams which are limited by a six-foot cable length.
The video capture card is installed in a computer running FreeBSD. The program used
to capture the still image from the video source is called camserv, and a simple
script uploads a new image every ten minutes.
