Description |
One of a kind! BFG-8500 prop (fake) weapon
Players of the computer game Doom will recognize this distant cousin of the BFG-9000 super weapon. This is actually a prop I built out of foamcore, balsa wood, and some spare parts from my electronic junk box last Halloween as part of my costume.
Disclaimer: This is a toy, not an actual weapon!
Use it at the office to blast your coworkers, great for Halloween parties, sci-fi conventions, low budget moviemaking, etc.
This one of a kind prop contains the following, fully functional, battery powered features:
- Blinking red 8-LED "Knight Rider" type display on top (see photo)
- Flash generator made from a disposable camera flash unit with a green optical filter
- Custom digital audio generator and speaker which uses an actual blast sample of the BFG-9000 taken from the computer game
- Two toggle switches (used to arm the unit)
- A pushbutton trigger switch fires the flash unit, automatically syncronized with the audio generator.
The BFG-8500 has twin pistol grips for two handed operation, though it is counter weighted so that it may also be used one-handed. The trigger switch is located on the rear grip. The on-off toggle switches are located on the bottom of the unit, forward and to the left of the trigger. One switch turns on the LED display and enables the flash relay, the other switch powers up the flash unit itself. (Note: The audio generator is independent of the arming switches and is fired when the trigger is pressed, regardless of the setting of the toggle switches). Set both switches all the way forward to disarm the unit, and all the way back (toward the trigger) to power it up. When both toggle switches are on and the trigger is pressed, you hear a "whoosh" sound, followed by the flash and an explosion sound, syncronized together. The green flash is emitted from one of the four barrels and the speaker for the audio generator is located in another barrel. The remaining two barrels are unused. Recycle time between shots is about 3-6 seconds.
Please note that this is a delicate, homemade device and not intended for rough usage. It is made mainly from paper foamcore, glued and painted silver and flat black. The top of the unit is held in place with scotch tape to provide access to the inside in order to change the batteries. Various non-functional decorations adorn the top, including some large power resistors, heat sinks, pipes and hardware.
The winning bidder will pay the final auction price plus shipping by money order or personal check.
