DMX ACCESSORY VOlCE BOARDS

The Accessory Voice Boards for the Oberheim DMX Digital Drum Machine enable quick changes and easy customization of sounds on the DMX.

All of the DMX Voice Boards can be changed. There are three types of Voice Boards used in the DMX:

  • Basic Voice Board-two versions (used for all sounds except Cymbals)
  • Cymbal 1-Controller Board (used in conjunction with the Cymbal Memory Board)
  • Cymbal 2-Memory Board -long and short versions (contains the sound EPROMs for the Cymbal sounds)
The Cymbal 1, and Cymbal 2 boards must be used in the Cymbal 1 and 2 slots, respectively. The basic Voice Boards may be placed in any other voice slot.

The buttons on the front panel will play the whatever voice is in the appropriate slot, and the mixer controls will control the volume of whatever voice has been placed in that slot. If the SNARE voice board has been placed in the HI-HAT voice slot, then the SNARE voice will sound only when the HI-HAT buttons are pressed. The panning in the STEREO MIXED OUTPUTS is also determined by the slot in which the voice board is installed.

To change Voice Boards:

Open the unit by removing the two screws at the bottom of the front panel, and lifting up the front of the unit. The Voice Boards are at the left of the unit. The Voice Board slots are labelled on the Processor Board. The order of the Voice Boards are:

To remove a Voice Board:

Make sure that the power is off. Grasp the desired Voice Board firmly at each end and pull up. The connectors are usually tight, so you may have to slowly work the Board from one end to the other.

To install a Voice Board:

With the power off, line up the connectors on the Voice Board with the connector pins on the main circuit board (Processor Board). Holding the Voice Board firmly at each end, push down firmly, so that all of the connectors engage.

Turn the power on. The new board should sound when the appropriate buttons are pressed. The tuning of the new board can be adjusted by turning the trimmer control on the top of the board.

If the new voice doesn't work:

NO SOUND:

  • Make sure the connector pins are lined up properly and are actually inside the mating connector.
  • Make sure that the board has been installed in a proper slot.
  • Are the proper buttons on the front panel being pressed? Is the power on?
  • Re-install the original board. If the old board works but the new one does not, refer the board to an authorized service center.

POOR SOUND:

  • The Voice may be not be tuned properly. Adjust the tuning control on the top of the Voice Board.
  • If the other voices also sound bad, the fault may not be in the DMX. Check the connections and the sound system.
